Silkworms are naturally low in fat and rich in protein that includes essential amino acids that our bodies cannot synthesize.
Their unique diet on mulberry leaves imparts silkworms with special nutrients such as 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), silk protein, etc. DNJ is known to suppress after-meal blood sugar levels, and silk protein promotes intestinal health*.
Silkworms also contain dietary fiber, B vitamins, zinc, folic acid, and more!

Cultivation of silkworms requires significantly less water and land and produces drastically less CO2 compared to traditional protein sources such as beef, pork, and poultry.

Silkworms have been used for the production of silk for almost 5000 years. They have also been consumed as an important source of protein. Japan has one of the oldest research and industrial histories in silkworms dating from the Meiji era (1868 – 1912).
